A Seminar on ABET Accreditation

The College of Engineering (CoE) at Al Ain University organized a seminar about ABET Accreditation in Al Ain Campus. The seminar was presented by Dr. Mousa Hussein, who is a certified ABET evaluator; and attended by Dr. Qutaibah Al Thebyan, Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Bassam Harb, Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, and the faculty members from the College of Engineering (CoE) and College of Business (CoB).

This seminar was part of the CoE’s continuous effort to ensure the quality of its programs, and to prepare for the renewal of accreditation of its two ABET accredited programs: “Networks and Communication Engineering” and “Software Engineering”.

The invited speaker discussed the accreditation process, describing the specific ABET criteria for accreditation. The presentation also included the time line for accreditation, and the recent changes in various criteria. Moreover, the speaker gave an expert’s insight into the accreditation process, mentioning examples of programs’ weaknesses and deficiencies.

This event was a great opportunity for the CoE new faculty members to learn from the speaker’s experience as an ABET certified evaluator.  It was also a good platform to discuss various issues related to the assessment process, faculty, and students.
