The "Experimental Education" workshop recommends to prepare pharmacists for the labor market

Al Ain University concluded the 4th Regional Pharmacy Faculty Development Workshop on “Taking your experiential Education Program to the Next Level” which was jointly organized with the Commission for Academic Accreditation - Ministry of Education, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) over three days’ consecutive days at Abu Dhabi Campus.

The workshop was attended by Mr. Mike Rouse, Director, International Services (ACPE), Dr. Lucinda Maine, CEO of the AACP, Mr. John Ressler, Director of Academic Programs and Professional Development (AACP), Dr. Noor El Deen Atatreh, AAU Chancellor, Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President, Dr. Amer Qasem, AAU Vice President, Dr. Khairi Mustafa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Mohammad Ghattas, Deputy Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Academic staff of the college of Pharmacy, in addition to more than 50 researchers and academicians from different universities of the region from inside and outside the country.

The workshop hosted two keynote speakers; Dr. Craig Cox, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice & Vice Chair of Experiential Programs in Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy. And, Dr. Susan Vos, Clinical Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Professional Education at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, where they discussed the ways of strengthening and evaluating existing experiential education programs and best practices for developing through panel discussions and group workshops.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Noor El Deen Atatreh, AAU Chancellor provided special thanks for all partners, organizers, speakers, academic and administrative staff, as well as the participants.

Prof. Ghaleb Al Refae, AAU President, stressed on the importance of workshops that combine the theoretical and practical aspects in enhancing the skills of the faculty members through the meeting between distinguished experts from all over the world, the deans and faculty members to promote exchanging experiences and good practices.

Dr. Maysoun Al Kaabi, Director of Pharmacy at Al Mafraq Hospital, SEHA, pointed out that the workshop aims to discuss the standards required for graduates of pharmacists in accordance with the labor market.

This workshop considered as an extension for the Third Regional Pharmacy Faculty Development Workshop, which was held last year about the “Best Practices for Planning and Evaluation of Experiential Education”. It aims to develop experiential learning experiences to a higher level, to recognize the importance of applying experimental education and its suitability to other curricular requirements, and to prepare students, mentors and training sites for a distinct experimental learning environment, as well as to create an effective evaluation policy for each individual experiential education program.
